The media can play a key role in promoting or undermining a wind development, especially during facility siting In this study, both quantitative content and qualitative discourse analysis will be used to trace how community-based wind is portrayed in mainstream news media in Canada and Ireland and on the web. This will build on such studies as Songsore and Buzzelli (2014a,b) Deigan et al. (2013), but with a focus on community wind models. We will compare local media coverage near the case study sites with wider national and international coverage on the strong community wind energy model in particular. Further value added will come from interviewing news reporters and editors to understand how and why discourses are constructed in the ways they are.
